The Abel Simulator

This is is a computer based simulator that can be connected to up to eight bells, by means of optical sensors. You may be familiar with using Abel for Windows on a home PC and using the keyboard to ring methods.

In the tower, with the real bells silenced, the sensors let the simulator know when the real bells would have struck and the programme generates the sound of the bells.

Handbells with sensors are also available for handbell practice.

Control the computer from the keyboard or use footswitches.

In simulator mode one or more ringers can practice rounds, call changes or a method on 5 - 22 bells.  The simulator fills in all the other bells.  The method library is extensive and new methods can easily be added.  Plain courses and touches, called by you or the simulator, can be rung.

Develop ringing by rhythm.  Improve listening skills by deliberately introducing faults or silencing bells.

A very useful, versatile interactive teaching tool.  Using the review option you can see your mistakes and try to correct them next time.

In the multi bell mode it can be used for silent practices; ringers hear computer generated bells in the ringing room without making a noise outside the tower, avoiding complaints from neighbours.

Sensors for the simulator are fitted on the tower bells at Workington but can be re-located.
