Getting There
The A595 from the North or South is the usual
route. There is a choice of approaches, depending on how well you
know the one-way sytem (and the diversions now in force in the
town centre!) If you DON'T know Whitehaven well, try the
following.
From the North: At the Whitehaven Welcome sign,
the road divides (by a BP Garage). Stick to the left hand split
(A595) and carry on round the curve. As you spot the Chemical
Works on the hills beyond, you will see a large white building on
the Left of the Road. (Pub-Sunny Hill). Turn Left immediately
longside this and then right at the road
junction. The road passes beneath the previous road and narrows.
Continue past the School on your left and turn first Left into
what is High Street. Church on your left.
From the South: Use the A595 Whitehaven by-pass
until you see the large white building on your right (Pub-Sunny
Hill). Turn Right immediately longside this and
then right at the road junction. The road passes beneath the
previous road and narrows. Continue past the School on your left
and turn first Left into what is High Street. Church on your
left.
- Parking:
- Horrendous. There is
1 hour disc parking in the area for about 1 mile from the
church, rigorously enforced. Opposite the Church is the
Primary School where time free spaces are sometimes
available at the front and on its Left hand side, down
the narrow road in a private park (for Church visitors
only). The situation has been made worse at the moment
(October/November 2003) by the roadworks in the centre of
the town pushing out the parkers to this area.
-
- Loos:
- There is a small loo in the church,
located through the vestry.
-
- Eating and Drinking:
- Provided you can find a reasonable parking
space, there is a good selection of pubs &
restaurants in the town. Most pubs have their own parking
space.
- Tea/Coffee making facilities are available
at the church, booking with the Tower can make this
easier.
