Getting there

By Road

From the A66

Follow signs to Appleby into built up area by river. Look for turn over bridge marked Orton/Tebay (B6260). Cross bridge and continue into Boroughgate. Church is to your right behind 'The Cloisters'.

From M6 at Tebay (Junction 38)

Take first exit at roundabout and follow road for Appleby (via Orton) approx 12 miles (B6260). As you enter Appleby you pass the castle at the top of Boroughgate; the church is at the foot of the hill.

Parking

On Street:

Can be tricky on Saturdays, as there is a Market occupying the nearest car parking zone to the church. The town is also very busy on this day.
There are two Disc Parking zones:

2 Hour at lower end of Boroughgate & Market Area
3 Hours mid to upper Boroughgate, side streets and area over the bridge

NB Parking Wardens: Very active recently

Car Parks:

Pay & Display: Broad Close. Near to Church
Free: far end of Chapel Street (continuation of road past Broad Close Car Park). Gentle stroll to church.
Coach/Bus park free for 90 minutes. Next to Moot Hall.

By Rail

The famous Settle-Carlisle Line runs through Appleby and can add scenic enjoyment at the beginning and end of your visit. The station is high above the town and the walk back (a generous mile) is a stiffish climb - allow plenty of time for your train connection. The Friends of Settle-Carlisle Line operate a shop in Appleby Station and memorabilia is on display. There is a special memorial here for the late Bishop Treacy who died on the station while photographing his beloved steam engines.
Direct line to Carlisle, Settle, Skipton, Leeds & Aire Valley stations.

Eating & Drinking

There are 4 Pubs on Boroughgate, 1 in High Wiend (near Post Office), 1 in Bridge Street and one over the other side of the river. Most do food at lunchtime and evening.
1 Coffee Shop (Lady Anne's Pantry) in Bridge Street
1 Cafe in the Bakers Shop near the Post Office.
1 Cafe over bridge and on your left (freshly baked food a speciality here).
1 Fish & Chip Shop & 1 Pizza Shop over the bridge (FS straight ahead: PS on your right)
1 Chinese Restaurant in Bridge Street
1 Chinese Takeaway in Low Wiend
1 Indian Restaurant/Takeawy in High Wiend
Bojangles Bistro in Bridge Street
